The Designer

My love for designing started when I first got an Apple Mac computer (at the time it was the only computer that could run the access/communication software I needed). I started to experiment with what I could do with my specialist access software/chinswitch by trying to draw Disney characters, copying them by eye from books. Each character took 3 – 4 weeks to complete; every line was multiple clicks of the chinswitch. Once I understood the limitations of the access software; I turned my attention to designing occasion cards and calendars for family and friends.

Enhancing my design skills at college, I was able to make more visually appealing work like logos, graphics and posters etc. using textured effects, layering and various other techniques. I also learnt web design and was asked by the former Treetops Hotel and Restaurant in Formby to create their new website, which was a massive learning curve.

Since then and with design software improving rapidly, I find myself having to watch online tutorials and read various textbooks to keep up-to-date and trying to figure out how to use the latest software with my chinswitch/access software. Challenging to say the least! I’m very proud to say that I have designed and created this website from scratch without using any templates.
